alpaca coat

i have been making this alpaca coat these past few weeks. it has been a very interesting process as i'm finding myself to be very particular with every detail, and yet there are no details. it really does take more thought, and consideration to make a simple thing, and make it right. so, i'm still looking at it, and thinking it should be a 1/2 inch shorter, and the shape should be more round... i am very pleased with the fabric, a black furry alpaca, and it's lined with grey silk.

more striped pants for etsy!

more striped pants as promised! two in the grey family - one soft, and one that gets all crinkly in the best way (backs of knees).
i'll be making 4 tops for mid-week. i'm trying to keep the shop stocked with 4 fabric versions of each style, making it only once in that fabric. so, if you see it, grab it!
after the tops, maybe some girl's things? or,skirts? or, aprons? robes? any suggestions? i'd love to hear!

a walk with max

we took a walk the other day. it was so beautiful! i wanted to show max a summer cottage from the old days. it's low slung, and modest, shingled, and sweet. it seems an arm's reach to the ocean, with a sturdy, little dock. we arrived at low tide, and were able to walk an isthmus/beach to two small islands. we walked around them. these images are from those islands. i would love to go back during the summer, and swim at that beach!

for andrea

just finished and sent off this dress to my compatriot andrea. she is a maker of clothes, and we met at the quimby colony. i am honored to know her! we exchanged many ideas, and garments. she made the cool coat i am wearing! she taught fashion design at the art institute of chicago (gary graham was a student!). she's an angel.

blowing a gale outside

a few nights ago the wind was whipping up a storm, gusts at 70mph, and blowing steady around 50. it lasted all night. the power went out shortly after these photos were taken. we lit the candles, and read our books around the kitchen table. here, frances is busy creating her emblem.
