France by 50

I have a goal that I am working towards. I'd like to be living in France when I turn 50. Hopefully Paris.
However, I am concerned about the new state of American-French relations. I am trying to figure out Sarkozy visiting Bush in Kennebunk. I can't quite wrap my head around it. Where did it come from? I thought the relationship between us would heal with our new President (hillary?, obama?) and Segolene Royal. That was my little fantasy. But, Sarkozy warming up to Bush makes me wonder.
